Summer in the City at Edmund Burke School in Washington, D.C. seeks a creative, organized and energetic summer math teacher to teach three math courses for two weeks in mid-August. Candidates should be able to teach a broad spectrum of quantitative skills from basic math to the most advanced. We are seeking teachers who teach Algebra 1 through Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry. The courses to be taught include a two hour Pre-Calculus Review/Prep course, an hour and a half Algebra 1 Prep course, and an hour and a half Algebra 2 Prep course.
Summer in the City prep courses emphasize a student-centered, constructivist approach to education. We expect teachers to run orderly, engaging classes, use innovative, developmentally-appropriate classroom activities and assignments designed to engage a diverse student population, and employ appropriate technology in the classroom. We expect teachers to foster a respectful, caring community, appreciate adolescents and enjoy their company.
