University Liggett School, the oldest independent school in Michigan, is a forward-thinking institution located in suburban Grosse Pointe, just outside of the city of Detroit. We seek an Upper School English Teacher (Grades 9-12). The ideal candidate will possess:
3-5 years of teaching experience
an advanced degree in English, education, or a related area
a strong understanding of the developmental needs of high school students
a background in academic research
facility with technology in the classroom
experience with student-centered teaching and learning practices
practice with authentic and performance-based assessments
a desire to engage meaningfully with the Liggett community
a collaborative, inclusive approach to all aspects of school life
Along with core teaching in the English Department and serving as an advisor to a group of Upper School students, the candidate may, in accordance with qualifications, teach in the Academic Research Program.
