Job Description: Green Acres School is seeking a full-time teacher of Spanish to Lower School students (Pre-K to Grade 4.) The ability to get children engaged with and excited about Spanish language and culture is our key objective. Teaching in the target language is essential, along with the ability to integrate both language skills and cultural literacy. The approach we embrace, based on research in language development, is highly communicative. Teachers conduct classes in Spanish as much as possible, using authentic games, songs, conversations, and other activities to help children internalize language components such as its sound system, basic lexicon, and grammatical structure. Students speak, listen, read, and write in Spanish—to develop communicative fluency, an understanding of how the language is constructed, and an understanding of culturally appropriate interactions.
In addition to classroom instruction, the Lower School Spanish teacher will participate in the review and development of the school-wide Spanish curriculum to ensure coherency of scope and sequence from Pre-K to Grade 8. He or she will serve as a valued member of our staff, providing important input on school and division-wide initiatives and contributing to the overall professional community.
Requirements: Green Acres seeks an experienced classroom teacher who has a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation, with teaching experience relevant to this position. The successful candidate will possess the following capacities: a sincere love of working with young children, native or native-like fluency in the Spanish language, versatility in teaching grades PreK-4, the ability to provide differentiated instruction, and an active interest in integrating technology into the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
