Norfolk Collegiate School is seeking an experienced tutor who is innovative, enthusiastic, and compassionate for a Lower School Learning Resource Tutor position. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide a student centered positive learning environment, foster their intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills, as well as, be able to work effectively with colleagues and parents. This tutor shall also demonstrate a strong work ethic and a desire to be a lifelong learner.
• To work with children on an individual basis as needed to correct problems or address special needs • To develop and implement programs for each child according to their needs, and coordinate the program with the classroom curriculum • To communicate regularly with parents, teachers, department head and principal regarding each child’s program and progress • To keep accurate daily records of the child’s progress and behavior • To write quarterly progress reports to be included with report cards • To attend parent conferences as needed or requested by teachers or parents • To turn in a monthly statement of children’s hours and fees • To assist in the monitoring and implementing of test accommodations as needed
Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Reading or equivalent • Experience with Special Education is desirable • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessment • Must demonstrate enthusiasm and effective interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
