St. James’ is seeking a Full-time Science Teacher for the 2017-18 academic year.
The Science Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing instruction in core science areas for grade two through six, offering an enriched curriculum to all students, providing extended opportunities to those students capable of deeper understanding, and providing help for those needing extra assistance. Hands-on, experiential learning is essential in these classes, and laboratory work and technology integration is essential to our Science program. Not only is it expected that the teacher engage the students in creative ways that inspire them to think critically, but also employ effective classroom management techniques. The Science Teacher is also responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of our yearly science fair. In addition to the academic aspect of education, teachers must concern themselves with all aspects of the child and look for opportunities to promote social and emotional growth. Regular, thorough, and appropriate contact and the development of a good relationship with parents and guardians are expected, as is a collegial working relationship with peers and administrators. Teachers must understand and support the Core Beliefs of St. James' and model respectful behavior to all and an appreciation for all that is excellent about our community. They must be willing to look for opportunities to foster their own growth and that of their colleagues.
• BA or BS degree in science and teaching credential
• At least three years of full-time science teaching experience in an accredited school
• Experience with the use of Smart Technologies and Keynote Presentations, and their integration into the curriculum
• Experience planning curriculum and implementing differentiated teaching methods.
• Experience planning and executing frequent laboratory work, which is essential to our core science curriculum
• Sound understanding of and affection for elementary-age children
• Experience working with students and families of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
• Professional demeanor; courteous, outgoing disposition
• Strong recommendations from previous teaching supervisors
