Girard College is a full-scholarship boarding school for academically capable students from qualified families of limited financial resources. The teacher may be assigned to teach math courses including geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, math electives and related subjects in grades 9 through 12. Our teacher will need to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction, aligned to Common Core State Standards and the Girard College Instructional Benchmarks. He or she will work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as the residential staff responsible for the high school students. In addition, the teacher will participate fully in the college academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Head of High School and will begin September 2017.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, calculus and other math electives to high school students.
Provide instructional leadership with a high degree of competence, adhering to high expectations within a student centered, performance based context.
Work collaboratively with the Instructional Coaches, teachers in other disciplines as well as the residential staff responsible for the high school students.
Manage the classroom in a positive, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
Facilitate and maintain appropriate communication with students and Residential Faculty with regards to student progress.
Have significant competency in integrating technology into instruction.
Model and maintain appropriate student behavior.
Participate in all high school events.
Participate fully in the college academic and residential community.
Participate in all professional development activities assigned by Girard College.
Develop and maintain constructive relationship with parents
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate major, Master’s preferred
Instructional Certification Required, PA Instructional Certification in High School Mathematics Preferred.
Teaching experience in math at the high school level, especially in a diverse setting.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proven ability to work collaboratively.
Experience/ability to integrate technology into instruction.
Consistently strong recommendations from previous employers and others.
Preferred - some competencies in a wide range of areas supportive of student learning e.g. coaching, club leadership, the arts.
Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation reimbursement available.
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
