Moravian Academy is seeking an innovative, organized, and experienced long-term substitute teacher for four sections of high school Mandarin Chinese. This teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing Chinese curriculum for courses in a collaborative department of colleagues. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established program and to work with a dedicated team of professionals teaching students critical thinking and reading for multiple audiences using a variety of texts and modes of writing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach four sections of Mandarin Chinese to students in grades 9 through 12;
Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration and problem-solving; integrate innovative pedagogical practices into the curriculum;
Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications through school-supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls;
Participate in professional collaboration, including committee work, chapel services, and divisional faculty meetings;
Assess and provide feedback to students and parents during comment and grading periods;
Assume duties including, but not limited to, serving as an advisor to a small group of students, taking on a fifth responsibility, and leading an activity.

A Bachelor’s degree in Chinese or related field required; Master’s degree preferred;
Native speaker or near-native fluency, with significant experience abroad;
Speak Mandarin using the Pinyin pronunciation system;
Two to four years of teaching experience;
Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools or similar college-preparatory programs;
Proficiency in digital tools for collaborative, student-centered learning.
