Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive pre-K through 12 independent school serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs. Committed to academic excellence, ethical learning, and progressive education, ECFS offers a rich and challenging curriculum in the arts, sciences and humanities. A coed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 350 faculty and staff and 1,700 students from pre-K to 12 on two campuses: one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan. Ethical Culture School, located on the Upper West Side at 63rd Street and Central Park West, is comprised of approximately 450 students, pre-K through 5th Grade, and 80 faculty members.
The financial analyst is responsible for overseeing the processes of budgeting and forecasting for Ethical Culture Fieldston School and for preparing all resulting financial reports. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the financial analyst will also support decision-making by providing financial analysis of the organization’s operations and preparing materials for meetings of the school’s executive management team and board of trustees.
Manage the annual budget process.
Coordinate timing of budget submissions and reviews with budget owners.
Advise budget owners in formulating their budget submissions
Summarize divisional/department budgets to create financial statements. Ensure overall financial results align with organizational goals and financial objectives.
Monitor progress against budget throughout the year. Proactively identify trends, areas of opportunity and those requiring further action.
Provide ongoing financial support to all budget owners.
Develop updated financial projections for management on a periodic basis throughout the year.
Assist in the development of expectations for future financial performance and the establishment of key financial metrics.
Perform data analysis in order to identify patterns, key trends and opportunities in numbers.
Prepare materials for meetings of the school’s Board of Trustees and Administrative Council.
A BS degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Previous experience in financial planning & analysis and forecasting preferred.
Minimum of three years of experience in a comparable position.
Experience with analyzing and modeling data to solve problems.
Understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Proficient in Excel, MS Office and Google Apps.
Creative problem solver with strong analytical and critical reasoning skills.
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to present financial data and recommendations to non-financial constituents, including senior administrators and trustees.
Detail-oriented, well organized and able to meet tight deadlines.
