Purpose: Serve as educational leader and chief administrator of 60 year old highly regarded N-8 private school developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum and budgets in a manner which ensures a culture of motivation and aspiration throughout the school community and where teaching, learning and healthy relationships thrive. The head of school is expected to play a critical role in providing each child with a well-balanced superior education which includes success in core subjects, a wide range of enrichment activities and quality experiences which support personal student success.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
General Planning: Provide strategic leadership for school development and management including establishing priorities, identifying annual objectives and long range goals for the instructional, extracurricular and other programs which support student learning and staff development consistent with the school’s mission and values.
Management: Plans and lead regular small and whole school meetings that have a clear purpose and engages participants in thoughtful discussion and deliberation about important school matters. Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the school in all aspects of its operation. Collaborate, delegate and effectively anticipate challenges. Act accordingly to promote transparency and responsiveness to situations which may arise. Create a system of mutual responsibility accountability among faculty and staff to ensure all functions of the school operate efficiently and effectively.
General Coordination: Communicate with the Owners/ Directors regularly about needs, successes and general operation of the school; cooperate with Directors in preparing and managing schools budgets and schedules; recommend budget priorities; manage databases necessary for maintaining records which provide the information necessary for decision making; complete and submit in timely fashion all reports and records as requested by the Directors and /or legal authorities; ensure that the school is in compliance with all laws, policies and regulations of local and state authorities; coordinate with appropriate outside offices to obtain educational resources for children requiring services.
Student Recruitment and Admissions: Develop and implement marketing plan to recruit students and oversee the admissions process; orient new students and parents to the school; maintain close contact during their initial entry into the school. Create and maintain marketing materials and programs aimed at recruiting, and retaining qualified students.
Teaching and Learning: Supervise overall educational program; evaluate lesson plan and observe classes to ensure the integrity of instruction. Systematically apply formative and summative assessment data to drive instruction, curriculum and staff development with opportunities for faculty and other staff members to participate in the planning process.
Relationship with Personnel: Recruit hire, support, retain and motivate qualified, caring faculty and staff.Supervise and appraise faculty in fair and consistent manner; provide for professional development to improve performance and to enhance the instructional program. Hold regular faculty meetings to maintain intra–school communication; discuss professional issues and involve faculty in planning and decision making. Summarize, interpret and disseminate current developments in learning theory and instructional strategies and recommend/provide resources for further study. Cultivate participation of faculty and staff to apply their individual background and expertise toward the betterment of the school program.
Family Engagement: Maintain close contact with parents and visibility by attending school functions to demonstrate genuine interest in students; provide frequent oral and written communication pertaining to the school program and individual student’s progress; seek parents support and advice concerning school programs and events; oversee the school’s reporting system to parents, (including report cards and conferences.) Actively ensures that all family members are welcome members of our school community and promotes events and activities to encourage both family and community participation.
Community Relations Serve as public relations officer educating parents and the community at large as to the unique qualities of the school, its programs and the accomplishments of students and staff; represent the school at appropriate meetings and events; inform the community about opportunities to use the school facility.
Networking: Build relationships with external organizations that enrich the culture of the school; build and maintain relationships with local colleges, universities and national professional organizations.

Holds or is eligible for a NY State Administrative Certificate
Experience in early childhood, elementary and middle school education
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
