Director of Studies/Curriculum, Division Head/Principal, Head of School
UWC-USA is seeking to appoint a Vice President for Education. This is a full-time position reporting to the President and responsible for academic, experiential, and residential programming and management.
The ideal applicant will have prior experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and with experiential education and residential life. Experience with the UWC movement a plus.
To provide leadership and execution on strategic vision and plan
To develop and provide operational oversight of academic, residential life, experiential, and summer programs
To liaise with outside agencies related to educational programming and accreditation
To serve as part of senior leadership team
To provide recommendations and carry forward major strategies in areas of responsibility and areas of overlap with all campus-wide initiatives.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Teaching and learning
To ensure that the standards and guidelines of the IB are interpreted/balanced with the UWC mission and the recommendations of IBO evaluations carried out in light of the UWC mission
To formulate, within a shared governance structure, the overall aims of educational and residential programming
To ensure that the quality of teaching and support programming is high for all students’ needs and abilities
To ensure that all students (and parents) are regularly informed about their progress through written reports
To set the agenda and chair regular meetings of the Program Leadership Team
To oversee the preparation of policies and schemes of work to ensure that proper standards of professional performance are established and maintained
To establish and maintain the standards required for recognition from external accrediting agencies as well as the UWC guidelines and principles
To recruit, mentor, and evaluate high-quality faculty and experiential, residential, and co-curricular staff
To implement a program of regular performance appraisal for teaching faculty
To oversee a program of regular performance appraisal for experiential education and residential staff
To define responsibilities and prepare position descriptions across the program delivery of UWC-USA
To oversee the content of the faculty and student handbooks and compliance with their guidelines
To make appropriate policies and arrangements for the induction of new faculty and their ongoing training and professional development
To produce an annual staffing plan for the president’s review
To collaborate with the president in setting the agenda for faculty and staff meetings, and to chair meetings when the president is not available
To ensure residential life policies and a student life atmosphere predicated on UWC mission and values
To ensure policies that support an environment conducive to social and emotional wellness and to cultivating a quality student-centric and student-driven experience
To ensure that experiential and residential programming fulfill IB CAS requirements and further the UWC mission and a student-centric, student-driven approach
To ensure that a rich, varied, and intentional program of experiential education opportunities is available and encourage meaningful student involvement
To work closely with student leadership as part of an effort to build a culture of student responsibility and leadership in all aspects of the UWC experience
To inform and collaborate on the strategic direction of the school
To work closely with the president and the vice president of finance and operations to ensure effective security and supervision of the school campus, buildings, and contents
To keep the school’s compliance with health and safety requirements under review
To draft and manage the annual educational budget, ensuring that resources are adequate for the needs of all aspects of the program, and to oversee all budgets under area of supervision
To liaise with the president and director of admissions to finalize the selection of candidates admitted to UWC-USA
To staff the Board Education Committee, including but not limited to setting the agendas and providing progress on major initiatives and areas of concern
UWC-USA is an international boarding school. It enrolls 240 students in grades 11 and 12. All students follow the IB Diploma program. Roughly twenty percent of the students come from the USA; the remainder represent more than 75 different countries. Students are admitted on the basis of merit, potential, and promise.

Career educator with advanced degree(s)
Expertise in international education, preferably at the secondary level
A proven educational administrator with residential life experience
Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate curriculum
