Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Psychology and Counseling Services and in collaboration with the Head of School, Associate Head of School, Dean of Students and Director of Health Services, the School Counselor is responsible for applying their skills in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. Partnering with families, faculty, school administrators, and other professionals, the School Counselor will help to create a supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, campus and the community.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Provide counseling, instruction, and mentoring for those students struggling with social, emotional or behavioral problems including but not limited to clinical assessments and individual or group session with positive family involvement as appropriate.
Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning.
Promote wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism.
Work with students and their families if needed to make referrals for additional support.
Identify and communicate to school officials any at-risk student.
Assist in the analysis of data to support in student outcomes and school community improvement.
Promote school policies and practices that ensure the safety of all students, including but not limited to bullying and harassment.
Assist in crisis situations by providing leadership and/or direct services.
Maintains electronic case notes and other documentation as required by State Law and Health Services policies and procedures.
Work with colleagues to develop and present educational programs for the campus community and serve as a resource for faculty, staff and students.
Secondary Responsibilities Include:
Interact with students consistent with a boarding school community.
Perform dorm duty.
Assists with advising certain student clubs or organizations.

Demonstrate effective analytic, written and oral communication skills.
Experience with integrated software packages.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to solve problems by collaborating with others.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Masters degree in a mental health discipline
Must be currently licensed by the State of Ohio or immediately license eligible
At least two years of experience
Satisfactory completion of a routine background check
Ability to work a flexible schedule necessary in the operation of a 24/7 boarding school.
