Part-Time Middle School/Upper School Learning Specialist
Castilleja School offers an innovative, inclusive and diverse program to prepare our students for lifelong engagement in learning. The Learning Specialist reports to the Division Heads and works closely with the grade level deans, teachers, and with the Director of Counseling and Social Emotional Learning. Part-time, exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works in partnership with students, parents, faculty, and administration to interpret and understand psychoeducational testing
Develops accommodation plans for students
Collaborates with the Registrar regarding testing accommodations with ACT/SAT
Serves as liaison for the school with parents and outside learning services providers
Meets regularly with Deans, Counselors, and Division Heads regarding student learning needs
Meets with parents as needed
Works with individuals or small groups of students on specific learning strategies
Is professional, timely, and compassionate in responding to all constituents
Creates a safe and inclusive environment
Understands and is compassionate to adolescent realities, especially those related to girls
Treats students equitably, is sincerely interested in them as individuals, and responds to their needs
Engages and encourages students in the active process of learning
Holds students accountable for their actions and their learning
Holds high expectations for all students and communicates these expectations clearly and regularly
Responds to evaluations from supervisors and students professionally and constructively
Provides professional development for teachers and timely presentations to parents
Master’s Degree in Special Education, Learning Differences, Educational Psychology or related degree
Prior relevant experience working with children in Middle School through High School regarding learning differences and learning strategies; experience in schools strongly preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in both subject matter and methodology
Background in Social Emotional Learning preferable
Ability to pass state and federal background check, fingerprinting, and provide a recent negative TB test or screening.
