The Computer Science Department is responsible for the computer science education of students in grades K through twelve. Computer science classes are taught in the schools' computer labs; at other times the labs are open for use by students, faculty, and staff. The computer labs contain Apple computers that are managed by department members for curricular needs.
Computer Science Teachers are responsible for developing curriculum for and teaching computer science classes across divisions as required; working collaboratively with classroom teachers; working together with other members of the Computer Science Department to develop and maintain a cohesive curriculum sequence from grades K-12; advocating for computer science education in K-12. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the difference between mastery of devices and in-depth knowledge about computers and computing.
Full-time teachers are expected to work a 40-hour week and the required number of days as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This position is a one-year only assignment covering for a teacher on leave of absence for academic year 2017-18 and will include teaching classes in grades 6-12.
Anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/17
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Degree(s) in computer science or related field preferred. Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred.
At least two years teaching experience preferred. At least two years of experience teaching computer science in a K-12 environment preferred. Experience developing curriculum preferred. Experience working with a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language and nationality.
