Library and Media Support Assistant: Hope Memorial Library
Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, a Catholic independent school located in Summit, NJ, seeks a part-time Library and Media Support Assistant.
The Library and Media Support Assistant is responsible for performing tasks that support the daily operations of the Hope Memorial Library, working directly with students and faculty. In addition, this faculty position supports the media needs of the Upper School.
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the assistant has the following responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Student and Library Supervision
Assist with supervision of students during school, including lunch and break times, and after school
Prepare displays, bulletin boards and other promotional materials
Help to maintain an attractive and orderly library
Close the library every school day
Proctor tests and quizzes for individual students as needed by teachers
Reference and Research Support
Knowledge of appropriate resources, both print and online, for research projects
Respond to individual reference questions posed by students and faculty
Provide individual instruction on citation
Working knowledge of copyright guidelines for schools
Knowledge of and enthusiasm for reading and recommending books for students and faculty
Pull reserved book lists for projects
Manage interlibrary loan requests and returns
Media and Technology Support
Manage audiovisual equipment in Campion Center
Maintain audiovisual equipment in classrooms
Assist students and faculty with use of laptops, printers and copiers
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Working knowledge of Internet search techniques, subscription databases and Noodletools
Schoolwide Faculty Support
Serve on grade-level team as assigned by division head
Proctor schoolwide exams (i.e., PSAT, final exams, etc.)
Serve on school wide committees as assigned by principal (MEC, Middle States)
Participate in schoolwide activities (i.e. Service Day, chaperone class trips, etc.)
Attend department meetings, faculty meetings and in-service days
Administrative and Clerical Support:
Processing and Ordering
Process library materials (books, DVDs, CDs and A/V equipment) for collection
Manage bills, purchase orders and maintain electronic budget spreadsheet
Maintain print periodical collection
Maintain inventory of office and book processing supplies
Collection and Catalog Maintenance
Catalog library materials (books, DVDs, CDs and A/V equipment) including copy and original cataloging, edit MARC records and maintain on-line catalog
Repair books and other materials
Assist in annual inventory and weeding of collection
Manage new patron import each fall and maintain patron records throughout the school year
Manage circulation: integrity of status information, holds, overdue notices
Shelve books and periodicals
The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in Library Science, have excellent interpersonal skills and great attention to detail.
