The Meridian School is a K-5 independent elementary school in Seattle, Washington located in the Wallingford neighborhood’s Good Shepherd Center and surrounded by the historic Meridian Park. Meridian’s Customized Learning program is based on current research on best practices for meeting children’s individual learning styles and abilities. Our program allows students to get support or extension and enrichment within the context of the Meridian learning environment. Customized Learning allows for the tailoring of curriculum, methods of instruction, and learning environment to meet the learning styles and abilities of all students.

This faculty member will be a key member of the Customized Learning team. He or she will support students in flexible learning groups and occasionally in a whole-class setting. He or she will use both data and anecdotal observation to analyze grade-level trends and student needs. This faculty member will collaborate with classroom faculty, associate faculty, and the Customized Learning team to differentiate teaching, the curriculum, and the learning environment to support and challenge diverse learners.
Deliver explicit, targeted instruction to small groups of students based on data analysis and anecdotal observation
Provide targeted instruction to support or extend students’ mastery of grade level standards
Maintain data collection tools
Analyze data for individual students and to look for grade level trends
Collaborate with classroom and associate faculty to provide differentiated instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners
Develop enrichment activities for students who are already achieving grade level standards
Develop strong communicative relationships with parents
Attend faculty meetings and evening school-wide special events, and participate in staff committees
An ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:
A teaching certification and Master’s in Education; endorsement in special education or gifted education preferred
A minimum of five years classroom teaching experience specifically working with learning differences
Expertise in math intervention and extension strategies strongly preferred
Experience with coaching students through social challenges and managing emotions
Knowledge and experience with effective classroom management strategies
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Flexibility and the ability to be a self-starter
