Kalamazoo Country Day School seeks an inspiring, compassionate, and innovative Head of School for the school year beginning in the fall of 2018. The Head of School position represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced administrator to have a major impact on an established, yet evolving, school. Kalamazoo Country Day School serves the thriving, mid-sized communities of Kalamazoo and Portage, Michigan. We are housed in a spacious, updated facility, complete with a computer lab, a brand-new Maker Space, a well-furnished gymnasium, and two ample outdoor play areas. We have a reputation in the community for our strong STEM programs, and every student in kindergarten through eighth grade has a 1:1 tablet and laptop.
The ideal candidate will embody the following qualifications, experiences, and traits:
Experience in a pre-K through eighth grade school, preferably independent, either in teaching or administration
Master’s Degree or higher, though significant applicable experience may be considered
A proven track record of educational partnership with faculty, students, board members, parents and the local community
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience developing and managing a budget preferred
Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and growth mindset
Lead, motivate, and inspire a committed team of teachers with respectful engagement, guiding professional development, supervision, and evaluation
Translate the school’s vision into a curriculum that draws upon established best practices in education
Actively develop and participate in fundraising strategies as required for scholarships and capital projects
Remain open to feedback
Clearly and effectively articulate the school’s mission and attributes to prospective parents
Further develop marketing strategies in order to meet enrollment goals
Build close relationships and engender trust in order to foster a strong sense of community
Manage multiple and shifting priorities, and be able to solve problems and conflicts effectively, strategically, and tactfully
