Greene Towne Montessori School was founded in 1966 by a group of parents who sought a Montessori education for their three- to six-year-old children amid urban revival in downtown Philadelphia. Fifty years later, Greene Towne is accredited through both the American Montessori Society and the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, as well as licensed through the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, and overseen by an independent Board of Trustees. The School is located in the vibrant Logan Square neighborhood of Center City Philadelphia, within easy walking distance of many of the city’s parks, museums, and other cultural institutions, as well as the residential neighborhoods where many of the school’s students and staff live. The dynamic and diverse environment of Center City allows students to explore, learn, and volunteer outside of the classroom. The School has a student body of 180 children enrolled in two programs: Toddler or Primary. It has four Toddler (eighteen months to three years) classrooms, including one All Day/All Year Montessori Toddler classroom, and five Primary (three to six years) classrooms, including one All Day/All Year Montessori Primary class. The last year of the Primary program is the Kindergarten year. After Kindergarten, Greene Towne students go on to independent and public schools throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. Since its inception, the school has been committed to providing a high-quality Montessori educational experience, and it has a strong reputation in both the Montessori and independent school communities.
The new Head of School will guide Greene Towne through the last three years of a strategic plan focusing on the school’s continued financial health, operations, and facilities. Equally important is leading new communications and marketing initiatives with the goal of maintaining enrollment and increasing parent satisfaction. The new Head will also be charged with maintaining the school’s reputation as the best Montessori pre-school in Center City Philadelphia in the face of increased competition in both Montessori and non-Montessori preschool platforms. The new Head will work with dedicated Montessori-trained faculty members, the school’s administrative staff, an involved and supportive Board of Trustees, and an enthusiastic parent body to carry these objectives forward. Among the new Head’s other challenges will be to maintain and foster the strong sense of community and caring shared by Greene Towne students, faculty, staff and parents, as the school continues to grow.
