The Communications & Special Events Associate reports to the Director of Advancement, supporting and advancing the overall promotion and marketing the school and school-related events, as well as plans, executes, and supports a variety of school events, ranging from annual school-wide events and performance receptions, to on-campus parent events, donor events and admissions events. The Communications & Special Events Associate will contribute to and enhance the Advancement Department’s mission of promoting our school community from within and to the outside world to support development, parent relations, and admissions goals.
The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in the areas of marketing, communications and event management/planning, as well as the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment, strong writing and editing skills, and an appreciation and passion for Laurence's mission. Bachelor’s Degree required. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and disseminate a wide variety school communications to our parent body, alumni, and donors through multiple platforms (e.g., social media, email blasts, web, and print), including marketing and promoting school and community events and development initiatives.
Help manage the school’s social media accounts, increase engagement, and develop social media campaigns.
Help to create and disseminate the school’s weekly e-Newsletter highlighting a variety of on-campus happenings and classroom learning and projects, including working with teachers and specialists to garner article contributions and photos.
Day-to-day and ongoing management of website content, ensuring that the website remains dynamic and current reflection of our school’s programs.
Work with the Director of Advancement to help create and produce a variety of annual publications and project-specific electronic and print publications, including the annual report, spring and summer newsletters, admissions materials, and annual fund materials.
Help with the school’s photography and videography needs by taking photos of events, working with the school’s parent volunteer photographers/videographers, and ensuring that all school videos are properly stored, organized.
Manage and oversee the communications and events calendar to ensure coordination of event marketing and coordination with school’s overall busy calendar.
Plan and execute a variety of on campus events and meetings both independently and in collaboration with others, including, but not limited to, parent education events (e.g., visiting speakers and grade-level coffees with administrators), performance receptions, on-campus faculty and trustee retreat days, and employee events (e.g., holiday party, employee appreciation treats).
Support in the execution of major donor and fundraising events (e.g., annual holiday boutique and spring gala), and school-wide events (e.g., Open House and Halloween Carnival), as well as admissions events by working in collaboration with the Director of Development, Admissions Administrator, and other members of the Advancement team.
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Experience and comfort with using a variety of digital platforms required to disseminate communications and manage events (e.g., website back-end platforms, email communication platforms, social media platforms, Eventbrite, Paperless Post, Wufoo, Google forms, etc.), as well as proficiency using Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), or other similar programs (e.g., Keynote, Numbers).
Desire to continuously learn and stay up to date with changing digital platforms and technology needed to execute job duties.
Experience using design programs (e.g., InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop) to make basic banners, invitations, and flyers is preferred, but a willingness to learn is a plus.
Experience using iMovie is preferred, but a willingness to learn is a plus.
Ability to handle multiple projects at once and carry out job duties in a proactive, efficient, detailed, and organized manner.
Enjoys working collaboratively and creatively on projects involving multiple departments.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with donors, parents, trustees, and administrators.
Ability to be flexible and keep up with the unexpected projects and needs in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work some weekends and evenings, as required by the events calendar.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time during event-related activities and ability to lift at least 20 lbs.
