Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School seeks a Director of Student Recruiting and Admissions who will direct and implement recruiting strategies and promote the School to the broader community to maximize enrollment of qualified students. S/he will plan, oversee, and manage all aspects of the admission process for grades Pre-K through 12. The position requires active leadership and sustained interaction and collaboration with TJ’s senior leadership team, faculty, and students, and a visible presence within both the School and broader community.
The Director of Student Recruiting and Admissions must understand and be able to communicate Thomas Jefferson’s Mission and value proposition to prospective and current families; provide exceptional “onboarding” service to prospective and existing families; ensure substantive campus visit experiences; maintain and build on current connections with feeder entities, including local realtors, hospitals, businesses and schools; be able to analyze relevant admissions cycle data to continually improve the recruiting and admissions processes; engage parents and other School community constituents in ongoing admissions-related dialogue and activities; and cultivate and maintain productive relationships with all admission constituencies. The Director of Student Recruiting and Admissions works closely with the Head of School, Business Manager, Director of Communications, Board of Trustees, and senior leaders who participate in student recruiting. S/he reports directly to the Head of School.
Qualifying Education and Experience
Master’s degree preferred but not required
2-3 years of teaching and/or administrative service in a school setting, with developed experience in recruiting with an independent school admissions office preferred.

A strong commitment to independent school education
Demonstrated recruiting and/or field sales skills
Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to think analytically
Sociable desire for regular and visible involvement in life of the school and broader community
Experience with Excel
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to balance administrative duties and timelines

Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School opened in August 1993, and today has more than 340 students enrolled in grades PK – 12. A Board of Trustees governs the school, and the school is directed by the Head of School. Students are engaged in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, with all students taking several Advanced Placement courses during their Upper School years. Extracurricular activi...ties include performing and visual arts, academic and athletic competitions, field trips, and clubs. Enrollment at TJIDS is open to all, and financial aid is available to qualified students. The school awards more than $1,000,000 in financial aid annually to approximately 50 percent of the student population. In addition, significant privately funded merit-based scholarships are available. The school has graduated more than 300 students, with virtually all enrolling in four-year institutions immediately following graduation.
