The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a
full-time 7th and 8th grade Math teacher, beginning Fall 2017. Candidates must have a strong background
and experience teaching middle or high school students in pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry, as well as a
degree in mathematical studies or related subject matter. A graduate degree in related subject area,
teaching or educational studies, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
In addition to excellent mathematics teaching and academic background, this position requires energy,
flexibility, and commitment to working with students inside and outside the classroom. The successful
candidate will work very closely with other middle school teachers to develop and implement an
integrative and experiential curriculum. Grade level teams of teachers will dedicate at least four hours a
week to collaborative planning, research, and analysis/reflection of best practices of teaching and
learning. The successful candidate will be expected to work with middle school students in various
capacities outside of academic teaching. The McGillis School seeks teachers who are eager to be actively
involved in a wide range of programs, including the roles of academic advisor, coach, and/or
experiential/innovative education instructor, as well as teaching within our Explorations Block. Effective
communication with students and families is also a priority.
Prior to the opening of school in mid-August, the candidate will be expected to commit time to
familiarize him/herself with faculty and staff members, as well as the larger school-wide community.
