Renbrook School is an independent day school for children age 3 to Grade 9 located in West Hartford, Connecticut. The Lower School (preschool to gr. 5) seeks outstanding candidates to fulfill the role of substitute teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. In the absence of the full time classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction, encourages student's progress, and manages the learning environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a college degree in teaching and learning or a related field, with 1-3 years experience working with children.

Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time and motivates students to learn and participate
Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics and courses of instruction
Follow lesson plans as required by school policy
Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the lesson plans
Address the various learning styles of students accordingly
Demonstrate professional practices in teaching
Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff
Ensure adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and school property
Remain in classroom and monitor students at all times
Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the Heads of Lower School and appropriate school personnel immediately
May supervise students in out-of-class settings (e.g., assemblies, lunchroom, playground)
Additional Salary Information: Salary is commensurate with experience.
