The Purnell School seeks candidates for the position of Chairperson of the English Department. This is a full-time, long-term position beginning in mid August, 2017. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in English or a related field (master's preferred) and should have experience teaching upper level English literature and reading and writing skills. A background and/or degree in special education or learning disabilities is strongly preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
Candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Candidates should support the mission of The Purnell School to teach girls who learn differently.
Lead department to implement exciting curriculum and structured expository writing program
Provide effective and supportive instruction for students with diverse learning profiles including learning disabilities and ADHD.
Teach English literature and writing courses
Maintain accurate and complete records
Attend selective professional development conferences/seminars to further enhance professional knowledge
Provide support to several students as their advisor, the main communicative link between students and their families.
Work collaboratively with faculty and administrators.
Demonstrate a sincere interest in teaching and learning and a positive growth mindset.
