Recently relocated to the diverse Arbor Heights neighborhood of West Seattle, Westside School serves 350 students in PreK-8th grade. Westside speaks of creating a community around the value of “joyful learning” – a level of engagement built on powerful student-teacher relationships, learning by doing and a commitment to developing core skills and creativity across all disciplines.
The Director of Advancement is a member of the senior administrative team and works directly with the Head of School to lead strategy & manage the school’s admissions, development and communications programs. Ultimately, the goal of the Advancement Director is to perpetuate a thriving community characterized by robust admissions, strong communications, and a flourishing major gifts and annual fundraising program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the development and implementation of the School’s annual Advancement Plan
Become a recognized presence and voice in the Westside Community
Communicate the value and opportunities of a Westside education broadly to our constituencies
Lead the school’s admissions program to Increase the number of inquiries and applicants to Westside
On the heels of a successful capital campaign, work with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees to develop and maintain a strong major gifts program characterized by high levels of research, cultivation, organization and appreciation
Coordinate and grow the Annual Fund
Guide the Communications Coordinator in implementing effective devices for telling Westside’s stories.
Mentor and support the Community Development Director in her work organizing events, community and alum activities, and developing graphic and marketing materials for the school. In particular support the annual fundraising event through the cultivation of major gifts and sponsorships.
Work with the Assistant Head of School & Director of Technology to supervise the ongoing update of the school’s website
Advanced Degree or relevant experience in Communications, Philanthropy or marketing. A Background with independent school admissions & development preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong Communication Skills, both interpersonal and in communicating data “that matters.”
A strong ability to maximize resources
A strategic mindset coupled with the ability to implement details
5-7 years in school development and/or admissions work (or similar)
A strong demonstrable understanding of independent schools
Experience managing, training and supporting volunteers
Strong database and online donor research skills
Familiarity with Admissions and Development Software
Experience with graphic design and website development a plus

In the fall 2015, Westside School moved to a permanent campus in the Arbor Heights neighborhood of West Seattle, which supports our mission and values as a progressive, academically rigorous, relationship rich, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school with the core values of Academic Excellence, Joyful Learning, and Creating Confident Learners in a Caring Community.
