Ransom Everglades School seeks applications for a leader of the English Department starting in August 2018. The successful candidate will teach English courses on the upper school campus, supervise the teaching and professionalism of a department of approximately 20 members, oversee the development of curriculum and pedagogy in the department (middle and upper school), and otherwise be engaged in the life of the school. Specific course assignments will depend on the experience of the successful candidate. Candidates should be prepared to advance the Department’s ongoing discussions about the writing scope and sequence, the place of digital modes of communication, interdisciplinary learning, and research, and be comfortable with the School’s value for inquiry-based, student-centered learning inspired by the Harkness method. The reading lists in the department include a wide range of global literary voices. Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree in English or a closely related field and prior teaching experience. Previous leadership experience and a background in the literature of Africa or Asia is preferred.
