The Early Childhood Teacher’s Assistant is a member of the Early Childhood team that consists of the Lead Teacher and Director, two Early Childhood Assistant Teachers and a Teacher’s Assistant. The Teacher’s Assistant works with the team to support the operations of the early childhood mixed-age program and the delivery of a developmentally appropriate, 21st century skill-based curriculum. The Teacher’s Assistant supports special projects and activities. The Teacher’s Assistant also supports the school’s behavior management system and partners with the teachers and parents to promote and develop the social, academic and emotional development of the young children.
In addition, the Teacher’s Assistant will
Provide clerical and instructional support to the Lead Teacher and Asst. Teachers
Support and assist children in learning class material using the teacher’s lesson plan by providing students with individualized attention
Provide regular feedback on student progress and behavior to Lead Teacher
Set up equipment, and help prepare materials for instruction.
Record grades and attendance
Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, and hallways, or on field trips
Work to ensure uniform compliance with all school and classroom rules and the tenets of the Quaker religion.
Collaborate with the lower school faculty and principal to ensure consistent and quality services are provided to all
Participate in the Early Childhood teachers’ meetings
Work with admissions and participate in procedures to guide student admissions and retention
Be aware of current early childhood research through professional periodicals, professional development and participation in conferences
While the Teacher’s Assistant works with and is supervised by the Lead Teacher and Director, he/she is directly responsible to the Director of Lower School.
An Associate degree is required but a BA or BS degree is preferred. Experience working with students in an independent school setting is helpful. An energetic team player with effective oral and written communication skills.
