Sidwell Friends, a co-educational, PK-12, Quaker day school in N.W. Washington, DC seeks applicants for a full-time Head Varsity Coach for Boys’ Track and Field/Assistant Coach for Varsity Football beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. Teaching physical education classes is also required and additional coaching responsibilities may be assigned.
Coaching responsibilities include management of all facets of the Boys’ Track and Field program and assisting with the Varsity Football team to include, but not limited to: building competitive teams; organizing and running practices; developing and implementing effective game strategies; supervising and utilizing assistant coaches; recruiting highly successful student athletes; and teaching Middle School physical education classes. Additional responsibilities may include department wide duties as assigned.
Successful candidates must have a passion for coaching; maintain a high standard of integrity in all aspects of team management.; foster a culture that promotes the Quaker values of the School and the academic experience of the student; and intentionally integrate school core values as the framework from which to coach and build athletic programs. A thoughtful approach, the desire to constantly improve, and innovative thinking will be essential to success in this role.
A minimum of 3 years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level, and/or in a club setting, is required. Demonstrated abilities in communication and community relations and an ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration and parents are also required. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred. Proven experience in recruiting to a highly selective institution is desirable. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a background check.
