The teacher will work in conjunction with the Head of Middle School, the Upper Elementary and Middle School teachers, the learning specialist, the school psychologist, and the Head of School to educate and lead grade 4-8 students in accordance with the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices, the BHMS mission, the curriculum, and the policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School. The teacher may teach language arts, math, science, and cultural subjects. The teacher will work in consultation with the Upper Elementary and Middle School teachers to perform the duties and responsibilities required for this job. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prepare lessons in the designated subject areas in accordance with the curriculum of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, its mission, and Montessori philosophy
Develop, review, and update curriculum and curriculum maps as needed in conjunction with the Head of Middle School
Prepare an annual goals and objectives and a self-evaluation for professional development
When requested, be available during school hours to advise parents
Be an advisor to a designated group of students
Maintain a prepared environment in the classroom and instructional areas
Meet with the team of teachers on a regular basis to plan curriculum, discuss students, and discuss whatever is necessary to ensure a smooth classroom
Maintain student records with regard to attendance and achievement
Prepare for and participate in regular parent-teacher conferences as scheduled
Attend and participate in various evening meetings, such as Back-to-School Night
Participate in regularly scheduled overnight trips with students
Attend and contribute to regularly scheduled faculty meetings
Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty and Staff Handbook
Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Head of School or the Head of Middle School
Degree in Education - Masters required for Lead Teacher candidates
Minimum of two years teaching experience (Montessori preferred)
Montessori Credentials prefered
Strong work ethic and sense of humor
