Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in human resources or related field. Certificate in Human Resources preferred. Ability to solve problems, effectively and efficiently in a service-oriented manner. Good organizational skills. Computer proficient.
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the human resource functions of the school including employee relations, HR compliance, professional development, compensation, benefits, Worker's Compensation, Unemployment Compensation, and personnel policies and procedures. The Human Resource Manager needs to be a hands-on person who can motivate and lead effectively in an academic environment. S/he is a member of the Business Office staff and works closely with external payroll and benefits vendors as well as senior administration of the School. The position requires a good attention to detail and the ability to work in a group as well as independently. Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines is essential. This position requires the ability to work with changing schedules and priorities in a fast paced environment. Knowledge of applicable personnel laws and regulations and benefits administration required.
The following are specific responsibilities of this position:
Review and make recommendations on HR best practices regarding HR policies, procedures, forms and benefits, maintaining a service-oriented approach.
Primary contact for all employee issues/conflict resolution, as well as payroll or benefit questions/claims resolution.
Direct and oversee hiring, on-boarding, training, and termination as directed.
Manage Workers' Compensation, FMLA and Unemployment Compensation.
Maintain and update job descriptions for all employees as needed including periodic job description audit and employee classification as appropriate under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Oversee annual employee contract and benefit renewal process.
Responsible for personnel records, legal compliance, payroll and benefits administration including maintaining personnel policies, employee handbooks and implementing employee training and a wellness program.
Responsible for all payroll administration including tax filings.
Maintain compensation and employee salary budget and prepare monthly payroll accounting entry.
Prepare information for year-end audit, retirement plan audit, form 5500, and tax filings.
Ensure compliance with federal and state statues/laws and manage programs such as FMLA, ADA, sexual harassment, workers compensation, ERISA, IRS, HIPPA, Privacy, disability and unemployment insurance.
Manage employee separation process.
Provide training to department heads, faculty and staff as needed.
Manage professional development budget
Prepare and file information for 1099’s, 1095’s, W2s.
Assist with preparation of government filings as needed.
Assist with external reporting, surveys as required.
Support the work of the Chief Financial Officer
Assist with backup for Controller and Accounting Assistant.
Other tasks as assigned or needed.
Physical Work Environment:
Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time at a desk computer workstation, and using a repetitive arm, and finger movements as required for computer input.
Must have the ability to work in a semi open office setting with frequent in-person interaction and numerous interruptions.
Must have the ability to manage multiple projects at one time and to set priorities as needed
Must have the ability to travel to appropriate training events.
