Position Description:As part of our extended learning programs, GDS seeks an innovative and skilled leader to direct and lead our Summer Studies and camp programs and to support our GDS 360 program.
The Director of GDS Summer Studies & Camps is responsible for all aspects of our Summer Studies and Break Camp programs, including program development and supervision, marketing, budget management, staff development, management and evaluation, enrollment and registration, hiring, billing, communication with parents, children, and colleagues and more.
GDS Summer Studies is a small, summer academic enrichment program that we are looking to take to the next level. The Director will be expected to have sufficient knowledge of a variety of subject areas (including science, math, visual or performing arts, language arts, computer programming, technology and engineering, and more) in order to fully support and evaluate the Summer Studies Program.
The GDS Break Camps are hands-on, educational, stand-alone programs geared towards PK-5th graders and take place on parent-teacher conference days, in-service days, the first week of winter break, and one week of spring break.
The Summer Studies and Camp Director will also serve as a member of the GDS 360 Extended Day Program during the school year. In this capacity, the individual hired will provide hands-on support of the GDS 360 program by supporting the PK-2nd grade or middle school program, including developing activities for students not enrolled in enrichment classes and leading the staff in implementation of these activities. In addition, this individual may be called upon to lead the extended-day program in the director’s absence, including responding to student behavioral, social-emotional, first aid and health needs during program as well as responding to parent concerns as they arise. It also includes supporting enrichment program instructors and general team members as needed.
This role is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position and reports to the Auxiliary and Extended Learning Programs Director and to the GDS 360 director for the extended day component of the role. Though not an hourly role, school-year hours are expected to be 9:15am-5:15pm with the first half of the day dedicated to summer work and the second half to program time. Summer hours are expected to be 8am-4pm. In addition, the Summer Studies and Camp Director Position will be required to supervise six individual days of camp for PK-5th graders during the school year as well as one week of winter break and one week of spring break.

Responsibilities include the following:
Supervise and manage the Summer Studies program and School Break Camps
Serve as PK-2nd grade coordinator for the GDS 360 Extended Day Program
Communicate actively with potential and enrolled parents, teachers, and students
Market the program, including advertising, website updates, etc.
Manageme, hire, train, and submit payroll for all Summer Studies staff
Develop, supervise, and implement programming
Manage the program budget
Manage the camp and summer studies finances (including billing, collections and expense management)
Coordinate day to day logistics
Provide families with registration support
Configure the summer and break camp database and summer and break camp website
Manage and order summer supplies
Support the Auxiliary Programs as needed
Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Master’s or doctorate degree in education, school leadership, or equivalent professional experience
Previous experience managing and leading a team
Prior marketing experience
Minimum four years teaching experience or equivalent
Ability to think on one’s feet
Ability to work collaboratively
Strong communications skills (oral and written)
Previous database and financial management experience
Proven ability to use a database and website content management system
Detail-oriented and global perspective
Varied knowledge-base to allow support and evaluation of enrichment programs
Must enjoy working with children
Experience as a camper or counselor in a summer camp setting a plus
Current first aid and CPR certification or willingness to get certified; EMT, LPN, LRN, RN or other health background preferred
Current driver’s license and clean driving record
Must be able to lift 30lbs and actively engage with children
Position Status: This is afull-time time, year-round, exempt position.

Hours and Vacation: 9:15am-5:15pm September-May; 8:00am-4:00pm June-August and Break Camp Days
The Summer Studies Director is expected to take vacation during the school year and is expected to be present and not to take vacation during summer studies or break camp days. In addition, the director will be able to substitute any work taking place over school vacations (e.g. winter break or spring break) with vacation days at another pre-approved time.
