Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of Upper School Spanish Teacher to begin August, 2018. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of research based learning. We seek an Upper School Spanish Teacher who embodies our mission and who is passionate about working with our students and faculty. We are accredited by FKC, FCIS and SACS; active membership is maintained in SACAC, NACAC, NAIS, SAIS, CASE, CRIS, ERB, ALA, and the College Board.
To work with a collaborative team designing, organizing and implementing curriculum that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of primarily Upper School Spanish, being an academic advisor to a group of 12-14 upper school students, and being an active participant in the World Language Department.
Essential Functions and Tasks:
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning, using the Understanding by Design model of instruction.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing community norms that support rules and procedures.
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
Perform supervisory duties as assigned.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Requirements:
BA or BS in Spanish Education, Education, and/or FL secondary state certification.
Completed or in-progress master’s degree in Spanish or education is preferred but applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
Teaching experience in Independent Schools, preferably in an Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
Knowledge of diverse Spanish Cultures and the Spanish-speaking world
Experience living in a Spanish Speaking Country.
Familiarity with ACTFL standards.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English and Spanish.
Demonstrate the ability to plan lessons using authentic literature, games, and songs.
Demonstrate a willingness to integrate Spanish language instruction with other disciplines.
Experience with AP Spanish Language and/or AP Spanish Literature programs preferred.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work long hours for extended periods of time.
Be able to lift 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
