You are a highly productive self-starter who has demonstrated success working with students with a range of learning needs and styles. Your understanding of the academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of upper school students equip you to provide a motivating and engaging learning environment. As a member our Upper School English team, you will plan, organize, develop, and conduct comprehensive lesson plans and instruction and have proven yourself as someone who can tackle even the most challenging assignments with determination, humor, and the best possible outcome for students.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to:
Teach students the elements of grammar, sentence structure, formal usage, punctuation, vocabulary development, critical reading, writing skills in major modes, and literary analysis
Teach students composition development ranging from paragraphs to multi-page research essays
Help students gain self-awareness of their learning styles and needs, introducing strategies to assist students in independently improving their academic performance
Ensure students’ academic progress by emphasizing scaffolding for effective learning and inquiry
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her designee
Bachelor's degree in English or special education required; advanced degree preferred
Proficiency in subject matter and subject-specific training and instruction
Demonstrated knowledge in teaching principles, theories, methods, and classroom management
History of continued education or professional development in general education or assigned subject area(s) through in-service training programs or independent studies
