The Music Studio at Bennett Day School is a space for depthful experience and exploration of music, composition, performance, and movement. Student participation in the creation of music and responsive movement, as well as a developmentally-based understanding of the complex underpinnings in the musical language is critical to our experience-based Music Studio and program. An educator who embraces these goals, and possesses a readiness to build a Music Studio program from the ground up, will be an ideal match.
The Music Teacher will have primary responsibility for planning, programming, teaching, evaluating, and providing feedback for all students in the area of Music. Bennett Day School provides child-centered learning opportunities for students and the Music Teacher is responsible for establishing relationships with students, encouraging them to communicate respectfully, and to develop their confidence, skills, and enthusiasm for music. The Music Teacher will also contribute to a cooperative and positive adult working environment. This job requires an adaptive nature, and willingness to dig in deep to build a program for our unique and responsive program.
Music curriculum and integration development experience

Experience/professional development in/with special education
Experience in progressive education
Experience and/training in Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze methodology
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Music Theory, Music Education, or similar, and/or a minimum of three year’s experience as a Music teacher in a PreK-8, or comparable, school.
Grade level-specific Music curriculum development
Integrate professional standards of Music education into everyday classroom instruction and curriculum
Collaborate with classroom teachers and additional discipline teachers to plan and implement activities/lessons
Classroom learning preparation and maintenance of music equipment/materials in the studio
Contribute to individual student documentation and evaluation
Family communication: blogs
Part Time: hours are preferred, but negotiable
Physical strength to independently lift 15-20 lbs
Fluency in written and oral language in English
Ability to oversee and ensure the safety of children in and out of the classroom
