The Head of Lower School is the senior administrative leader of the lower school division of Charlotte Preparatory School. The Head of Lower School successfully executes all administrative and executive roles in the Lower School while overseeing the educational program, implementing all school policies, procedures, and practices, and maintaining a strong, positive school culture. This is an exempt, full time, 12-month administrative position.

Create a well-rounded, comprehensive learning environment that respects and supports all aspects of the ideal development of the lower school student:
Intellectual – the building of strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics necessary to the school’s 21st Century Skill focus: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, cultural dexterity, citizenship, and character
Physical - emphasis on wellness.
Social-emotional - focus upon character & honor; leadership.
Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations and decision-making for the lower school
In conjunction with the head of school, develop and implement school policies and procedures
In conjunction with the head of school, develop and implement lower school programs in support of the strategic plan of the school
Oversee all aspects of the lower school curriculum and its execution by lower school teachers
Serve as a positive, collaborative member of the Administration Team, including acting as an ambassador for the school with prospective parents, other schools, and other constituencies
Serve on school committees (admissions, education, etc) as required
Maintain a collegial relationship with and among all lower school faculty
Plan weekly team meetings, assist with planning of full faculty meetings
Oversee and manage the lower school learning support specialists
Responsible for hiring, supervising, evaluating, and terminating of lower school faculty and staff in consultation with the Head of School.
Work in close collaboration with the heads of early school and middle school to
facilitate strong connections between divisions
create a cohesive, rational curricular scope and sequence
create smooth transitions for students moving between the sister divisions
Interpret educational trends and methods of assessment of student performance in order to provide relevant educational programs for students and professional development of faculty
Plan and oversee execution of parent education programs for lower school parents
Coordinate with the school counselor to manage the school’s counseling, character development, and leadership development programs at the lower school level
Create and maintain the lower school schedule for teachers/students
Communicate proactively and positively with various constituent stakeholder groups, including the successful management of parents and their concerns
Primary manager of lower school student code of conduct and significant disciplinary actions
In conjunction with the Director of Finance & Operations, budget and manage school resources
In conjunction with the school counselor, support at-risk students and develop plans of action for student improvement
Some weekend and evening events/functions are required
Other duties and responsibilities as required
Reports directly to the Head of School.

Bachelors degree in appropriate field required; Masters degree preferred
Several years of school administrative experience (senior level preferred but not required)
Extensive experience working with lower school students
