Albuquerque Academy, a co-ed, independent day school, seeks an energetic, caring and creative history teacher with a strong record of engaging 8th- and 9th-grade students in the study of diverse world cultures from the ancient world to the modern age. We are looking for a history teacher who enjoys working with this age group in a setting that fosters creative involvement with a variety of historical and contemporary issues. The interest in and ability to teach outside this age range, either younger or older, is desirable. Outside the classroom, our teachers work with students in ways that foster their growth and development into effective contributors to their community. Teaches students to investigate and analyze historical events, developments, and the process of historical change
Helps students develop skills in critical reading, analytical writing, and the communication and sharing of their ideas in groups
Meets with students outside of class for additional help; generally being available to students throughout the school day
Gives feedback and grades on written work and tests
Serves as adviser to 8-10 students per year in the school’s 8th- and 9th-grade division
Writes comments home to parents at least once a semester describing the student’s progress
Meets with parents and other teachers to discuss ways to best support individual students
Coaches or sponsors an extra-curricular activity
Attends full faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings
Attends and supports divisional or school activities
Continues to develop professionally by reading, attending conferences and workshops, and the like
