Poly Prep Country Day School announces a search for Chairperson of the Science Department, grades 5 through 12.

Poly Prep seeks a leader for our Science department. The successful candidate will be a dynamic science educator with deep knowledge of curricular and pedagogical best practices, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning including using technology. She or he will have strong teaching and curriculum development experience in Chemistry and Biology, especially at the advanced high school level.
Being a role model to inspire and lead Poly’s Science faculty to pursue excellence as teachers.
Supporting the school’s strategic plan with respect to pedagogy and curriculum.
Leading the department to develop goals, curricula, assessments, and policies to serve a range of learners.
Supporting faculty self-evaluation, professional development, and scholarship.
Developing, communicating, and ensuring students are properly placed on curricular pathways.
Working with parents, faculty, deans and administration to address academic concerns regarding students who may be struggling.
Ensuring student learning outcomes exceed national averages and grade level standards.
Interpreting and sharing student performance data.
Leading regularly scheduled departmental meetings, and recording minutes.
Evaluating faculty within the context of departmental and individual goals, and motivating them to pursue growth and positive change.
Observing teachers to generate feedback and data to inform changes to department goals, policies, and processes.
Assisting in the search, recruitment, and evaluation of candidates for faculty openings.
Being knowledgeable of NSTA position statements on Safety and School Science Instruction and knowing, or being willing to learn, New York state and city rules and regulations regarding safety in school science facilities.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean and Head of School.
Teach three science courses.
Generate happiness and a positive outlook on life and learning
Be an advisor for a group of students (7-10)
Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not
limited to: department, committee, division and grade-level meetings
Participate in school events such as attendance at homecoming, admission open houses and other significant dates throughout the school year.
