The Rashi School, the Boston area’s Reform Jewish independent school serving students in grades K–8, seeks a full time Middle School Learning Specialist for the 2018-2019 school year. The role of Middle School Learning Specialist offers an exciting opportunity for teacher leadership and collaboration for student learning and growth. The Middle School Learning Specialist works with small groups of students within the general education classroom to provide direct, explicit instruction in reading, comprehension, written language, math, and study skills.
Teaching Organizational Skills (academic support classes) of 3-6 students for two sections of Grade 7 and two sections of Grade 8; each section meets three times a week for 50 minutes each time
Providing academic and organizational support to Grade 6 students as needed.
Working with students, as needed, during lunch, recess, and study hall
Meeting weekly with Jewish Studies, language arts, social studies, and science teachers for Grades 6-8 to provide consultation in to order to ensure proper accommodations and modifications
Participating in weekly Middle School Child Study meetings
Collecting data and present at Learning Team meetings
Attending IEP meetings and advocating for Rashi students at their local public schools
Reviewing educational testing and making recommendations for accommodations
Proctoring an accommodations room during ERB standardized testing
Leading a daily middle school advisory
Supervising after school homework support for one hour once a week
Communicating with parents about student progress
Attend grade level meetings with the Division Director.
Share duties (recess, lunch, etc.) set by the Assistant Head of School
Participate in Tefillah, Kabbalat Shabbat, and other holiday celebrations.
Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Attend weekly faculty meetings
Masters degree in Education, focus on Special Education.
3-5 years teaching experience as a learning specialist or special educator, preferably at the middle school level.
Experience working with students who have language-based learning disabilities and/or weak executive functioning skills.
Strong background in differentiating curriculum and assistive technology.
Passion for advocating for students.
Exceptional interpersonal communication skills that display a collaborative, team-oriented work style.
Warmth, flexibility, and a willingness to work collaboratively with the rest of the middle school faculty
