About our Health Services
The Wheeler School Health Services Office seeks a dynamic nurse colleague to join its staff. Comprised of a pediatric nurse specialist, a child and adolescent counselor, and an athletic trainer, our talented staff seek a skilled nurse to help us continue to provide quality care and expand health education. Reports to: Head School Nurse
Job Overview: This nurse position primarily involves physical and mental health care of students in Nursery through Grade Twelve in the Health Office of the Health & Physical Education Center as well as health education instruction.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provides assessment, identification, intervention, referral, and follow-up of students and adults in need of physical or behavioral health care during the school day
Collaborates with the athletic trainer and school counselor
Engages in collaborative communication with teachers and administrators and with parents using the “parent participation model”
Responds to urgent and emergent health situations on campus, including referral to medical facilities
Manages the flow of students and adults through the Health Center, ensuring a calm, caring, welcoming environment for children and adults
Encourages and educates school community members on disease prevention strategies
Teaches health education classes as assigned
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Rhode Island
Current CPR/AED certification
Experience in child/adolescent health and child/adolescent behavioral health
Five to ten years’ experience including several years in a school setting
Rhode Island School Nurse Teacher Certification or enrollment in courses required for certification
Experience and skill in culturally competent care
