Hawken School is seeking an individual to continue to build and grow our middle school computational thinking program alongside a team of thoughtful, innovative individuals committed to making our computational and design thinking initiative an integrated part of the Hawken experience. This initiative, and this position in particular, was new in the 2017-18 school year. With the addition of an Innovation Lab in the 2018-19 school year, and personnel to support this lab, the opportunity to work collaboratively across the campus and School will grow in the coming years.
Teach four classes of middle school Computer Science, which may include sections of 4th - 8th grade robotics and other Fab Lab type activities
Serve as an advisor, overseeing the academic and social growth of his/her advisees
Serve as a member of the Computational and Design Thinking team, attending team meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the initiative across the campus and School
Serve as a member of a grade level team of teachers meeting on a daily/weekly basis to plan, develop, and assess co-curricular activities and coordinate student support in alignment with Hawken's mission
Coach or lead a significant co-curricular activity within the Middle School and/or Lower School
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Directors or Head of School

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required; an advanced degree is preferred but not required.
Demonstrated experience and leadership in Computer Science curriculum development, instruction and pedagogy
Exceptional understanding of the developmental needs of middle school learners
A Joyful enthusiasm for middle school learners
Flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations and a sense of humor
Facility with dynamic educational technologies for enhancing the exploration of computational thinking across disciplines and learning, especially grade appropriate graphical and written coding software tools, as well as robotics environments, leagues, and competitions
Expertise in constantly discovering, disseminating, and evangelizing new computational tools to help students and faculty stay current across disciplines
Experience in mentoring independent student research for science fairs, competitions, and Olympiads is also a plus
A willingness and eagerness to assist in the life of the School
Experience in dealing and partnering with colleagues and parents
