Collegiate School seeks a Director of the Institute for Responsible Citizenship for the 2018-19 school year. This signature program brings together under one umbrella the eight pillars of Responsible Citizenship at Collegiate: Global Engagement, Inclusion, Economic Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Ethics, Civic Engagement, and Service Learning. The Institute provides a cohesive curriculum in these areas by fully immersing the eight pillars into the School’s academic and co-curricular programs, ensuring that each grade level builds on the foundation of the previous one from Junior Kindergarten through 12th Grade. The Director will serve as a catalyst for the innovative growth of the program while providing leadership and direction for the Institute and its multi-faceted curricula and programmatic work. This is a full-time, benefited, twelve-month position.
Responsibilities will include:
Supervising a team of dedicated faculty-administrators who specialize in one or more pillars of Responsible Citizenship and lead numerous on-campus and off-campus programs, including Collegiate’s International Emerging Leaders Conference
Overseeing the risk management and operations of off-campus programming including numerous international travel programs and community-based service learning programs
Establishing and leading the implementation of strategic plans, priorities and goals that align with the mission and goals of Collegiate School
Managing multiple department and program budgets and collaborating with the Chief Academic Officer to manage numerous endowments dedicated to Responsible Citizenship
Cultivating support and involvement, as well as growth and development with all school stakeholders, especially students and faculty
Partnering with senior administrators, including the Chief Academic Officer and the three Division Heads to ensure the successful integration of the Responsible Citizenship program into the curriculum
Sustaining Collegiate’s large network of community and school partners around Richmond and the world
Collaborating with the Capstone coordinators and facilitating the Envision Capstone program, the culminating divisional academic experience for Responsible Citizenship
Inspiring, encouraging and nurturing new and innovative programs spearheaded by faculty, and supporting faculty on program improvement initiatives
Collaborating and building positive relationships throughout the School
Thinking strategically about the Institute and its work and turning vision into reality
Additional qualities of a successful candidate will include:
A Master’s degree preferred
5-10 years of teaching and administrative experience with demonstrated expertise and leadership in at least one of the Responsible Citizenship pillars
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability in working effectively with a wide range of individuals, groups and cultures
Expertise in building effective teams
Demonstrated success in leading complex projects
Strong organizational and planning skills
Enthusiasm for professional development
Ability to listen, learn and embrace new ideas
Demonstrated cross cultural competence
