Hannah Senesh Community Day School seeks an outstanding, experienced Middle School Counselor to begin in August 2018. The School Counselor will support the social and emotional well-being of students in fifth through eighth grade while creating an environment in which learning can take place and a school climate that is supportive and reflects our school mission and values. The School Counselor will be a member of the Student Support Team (SST), consisting of the learning specialist, school psychologist, and academic administrators who meet regularly to consult and collaborate. Additionally the person in this position will partner with teachers and parents to support social-emotional learning.
Identify students in need of social-emotional support in consultation with faculty, parents, and SST.
Visit classes and observe students as needed or requested by faculty, parents, leadership, or SST.
Meet with students individually and in group settings to provide support and guidance to address specific social, emotional, or behavioral needs of students and help them get back on track and, if necessary, make recommendations for ongoing outside support services.
Act as liaison between the school and outside professional support.
Respond to behavioral crises, psychological and/or otherwise, as they arise.
Investigate student complaints and grievances and oversee resolution of student conflicts.
Collaborate with Middle School director to ensure appropriate consequences and support for behavior, maintain documentation, and oversee correspondence with staff and parents.
Attend faculty and team meetings and serve as a resource/consultant to faculty on student social and emotional concerns, as well as on their understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School students.
Model and implement effective strategies for classroom and behavioral management to aid teachers in their handling of difficult student and classroom behavioral situations.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement a health and social emotional curriculum.
Work with Admissions Director to evaluate compatibility of potential students with our school culture and environment.
Communicate and meet with parents as needed regarding student behavior and wellbeing.
Coordinate and facilitate parent education programming.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Hannah Senesh Community Day School.
Graduate degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or other applicable field.
Current License and/or credential as a clinical social worker, psychologist, school counselor or related field.
5+ years prior experience working in a middle school setting, preferably an independent school.
Good humor, energy, and a passion for learning and working with pre-adolescent and adolescent students.
Excellent interpersonal skills with students, teachers, and parents.
Excellent communicator with keen follow-up skills.
Ability to balance administrative and support service efficiently.
