Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately one mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Summary: This position is a 25% time, one-year faculty appointment for the 2018-19 academic year. This position includes music instruction for Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grade.
Successfully implement the grade level music curriculum, which includes singing, movement, and the use of percussion.
Collaborate effectively with homeroom teachers and music teachers to coordinate the learning experience.
Provide a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials, which support the diversity of abilities within the classroom.
Foster the students’ growth of moral character.
Impart enthusiasm for learning to students and inspire students to participate fully in the learning process.
Provide and maintain a stimulating, safe classroom environment.
Practice thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques, which support active learning and promote responsibility and self-management.
Represent Charles Wright Academy in a positive manner with all constituencies.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree. Demonstrated effective elementary music teaching experience is preferred. The candidate must have the ability to create dynamic, engaging lessons and use a variety of effective instructional techniques. A sense of humor, flexibility, ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with early elementary students are essential. Familiarity with Google G-Site for education and Mac hardware/systems is preferred. A commitment to diversity and inclusion with a strong sense of cultural competency is desired.
