Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a community Jewish day school in Los Angeles for grades K-8 seeks a dedicated and dynamic Science teacher for its Middle School, grades 6-8. Our mission is to serve the Jewish community by providing children a rich dual-curricular education that encourages independent and critical thinking, lifelong learning, self-awareness, and compassion. Strong candidates will have a degree in science, dedication to and experience with teaching middle school students. The ability to use a variety of pedagogical approaches in the classroom and the ability to use technology effectively in the teaching and learning process is strongly encouraged.
Planning and teaching a challenging course of study in a developmentally appropriate manner, with experience in differentiating instruction.
Following, developing and enhancing existing science curriculum, including engaging students in multiple modes of class activities that explore in-depth investigation a particular topic.
Creating an inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for community behavior.
Collaborating with other middle school teachers, educators and specialist teachers to develop curriculum, plan trips, and special projects.
Working and communicating effectively with parents in conferences and written reports.
Support and follow the Faculty Handbook for Policies and Procedures.
Being a positive and contributing member of the professional community.
May organize and attend annual overnight trips.
B.A. degree in science and teaching credential required
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferred
At least one year teaching in an independent school, preferred
