Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a Middle School Physical Education teacher to begin the 2018-19 academic school year.
The Lakeside Middle School Physical Education Department consists of three members who have deep expertise in their disciplines, are dedicated to collaborative, innovative teaching, and are inspired by working with a diverse population of middle school students. Currently, we are actively working to develop new curricula that will focus on student curiosity and exploration, self-directed learning, alternative forms of assessment, and fostering 21st century skills.
The Middle School Physical Education teacher will teach three sections of PE, all of which will be 5th through 8th grade physical education classes. These classes encompass introducing our students to the 5 components of fitness, leading them through a variety of fitness-based activities, as well as incorporating fitness-based game activities. Essential duties will include:
active involvement in the school community including participation in our experiential program (service learning, outdoor program, and cultural immersion trip);
collaboration with Physical Education colleagues;
act as a co-academic adviser to a group of 8-9 students;
participate in departmental, divisional, and all-school meetings.

Requirements and Qualifications
Ideally, the successful applicant will have experience teaching Physical Education, a demonstrated appreciation for Middle-School-aged students, and at least a BA or BS in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a related field. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion. References should speak to the candidate’s eagerness and enthusiasm for working effectively with capable young people at the Middle School level, to the candidate’s ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with adult colleagues, to their capacity to be an innovative leader in terms of PE curriculum and program. The successful candidate must satisfactorily complete a nationwide criminal background check.
