Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced Junior Kindergarten Teacher to join our expert faculty in a one (1) year, non-tenure track position. The Junior Kindergarten teacher works on a grade level team with two other teachers. Responsibilities include instruction in major curricular areas: social/emotional development, literacy, mathematics, science, arts. Children’s interests inform the curriculum. The teacher should embrace these interests and be prepared to address the wide range of children’s abilities as well as interests. Conferences, written narrative reports, and regular communication via newsletters, phone calls, e-mails or websites with parents are all required as are attendance at weekly faculty meetings, and involvement on committees within the School. Working with the Admission Department to review possible student candidates occurs annually. Communicating and working with outside specialists is often necessary.

Prefer Masters in Early Childhood Education but an Early Childhood BA, or K-8 Masters is acceptable with early childhood classroom experience and knowledge base
At least three (3) years of Lower School teaching experience
Knowledge about and experience with the developmental, social, emotional and cognitive issues of children in the early childhood years
Familiarity with the tenets of progressive education
Awareness of a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play
Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach, including documentation to share and reflect on student learning
Experience in and a commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency and seeking, continually, greater levels of diversity, equity and inclusion in practices and in curricula
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work successfully with colleagues on a team
Experience working with a Teacher Assistant
Flexibility, tact, and leadership in communicating with parents
Demonstrated interest in professional development through participation in workshops and other in-service education activities
Participation in reflective supervision/evaluation
