The Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing the leadership, vision and programming efforts for the boarding students and Day students of RCDS, ensuring the safety and security of students at all times. The Director will have oversight of all on and off-campus activities, including orientation to RCDS, for the day and boarding student population.
Specific responsibilities include:
Work with school leadership team and school counselor to attend to the emotional health of students.
Work with Head of School to create and oversee campus wide activities that build culture, campus cohesion, and school identity
Provide oversight of all non-academic campus activities
Monitor school atmosphere and culture and devise response to campus-wide needs
Coordinate and monitor the quality of the extracurricular experiences and off campus trips
Work with Head of School to communicate and enforce student discipline and proper codes of behavior
Communicate with parents about student social and personal successes, challenges, and missteps.
Coordinate and ensure the adherence to all school safety procedures (fire drills, lockdowns, accident protocols).
Generate school calendar in consultation with the Head of School
Work with School leadership team to provide a cultural orientation to RCDS for all students each year
Oversight and supervision of residential life experience
Fully integrate the boarding and day student experience by managing existing programs and creating new ones
Work with Dorm parents to ensure a warm, orderly residential life experience for boarding students
Ensure the coordination of after-school and weekend activities, including homework completion, for students in residence
Coordinate and deliver orientation programs for boarding students
Oversee coordination of logistics associated with off-campus housing, academic calendar, vacations, trips, extracurricular activities
Supervise Student Life staff
Manage a balanced budget
Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in School Counseling, Social Work or related field preferred.
Experience in working with young children and adolescents in an educational setting.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified.
Progressive and humanistic approach to addressing the social and emotional needs of students.
Excellent organizational and human relations skills.
Be able to organize work and set priorities to meet changing deadlines.
Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationship with all constituents.
Have a pleasant and collegial approach to work and, ideally, a sense of humor.
