The classroom experience is designed around an interdisciplinary teaming model, which is focused on a curriculum that is integrated and child centered. Candidates should possess the demonstrated ability to function as members of the interdisciplinary teams, integrate technology into the curriculum; interact with students in a variety of instructional settings in order to equip students with endless opportunities for collaboration, provide students with opportunities to express their imagination through sound educational practices, to express creativity through problem-solving and calculated risk-taking, to explore their interests, and engage fully in their learning.
The Woodshop Faculty position requires teaching traditional woodshop skills in the context of a design thinking class structure. Experience with design thinking is preferred but training and support can be provided for candidates who possess the necessary woodshop skills and who have a growth mindset along with a readiness to join in and contribute to a collaborative departmental team setting.

Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Three (3) years of experience working in a middle school, high school or comparable teaching environment.
The knowledge and ability to teach Design Thinking and/or motivation and willingness to learn about and incorporate the design thinking process into the woodshop environment
Thorough knowledge of the tools, equipment and processes used in a middle and secondary school industrial arts workshop environment. Proficiency in maintaining a highly organized inventory of tools and consumable materials. Ability to answer technical questions, address supply issues, transfer knowledge of tool usage and safety, and manage realistic project-build schedules.
Working knowledge of related OSHA regulations regarding safe shop practices and laws regarding safe handling, use and disposal of toxic and flammable/combustible materials and potentially dangerous waste. A working knowledge of emergency first aid procedures.
The ability to lift/move large pieces of lumber and heavy woodworking equipment.
The ability to develop and implement a curriculum that builds students' skills in inquiry, entrepreneurship, and innovation, while supporting the physical and intellectual safety of students.
An understanding of the developmental characteristics of grade 6-12 students and the ability to adapt and implement age-appropriate hands-on experiences with the tools and equipment in a process-based curriculum.
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies and the proven ability to work cooperatively within a grade level and team to modify and develop materials and assessments within an articulated curricular framework that is embedded in the school's mission, vision, and aims.
Proficiency with computer hardware and software in Apple (Mac OSX & iOS) environment (Apple iWork Productivity Suite, Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office).
