The Lower School Computer Science Specialist is charged with teaching computer literacy and technology classes in a special area rotation model within the Lower School (grades PreK-5). The central mission of this work is to ensure students are learning key skills and that technology is being used effectively to leverage student learning across the disciplines taught in the Lower School.
The Computer Science Specialist holds responsibility for the direct teaching of the technology curriculum and works in a collaborative capacity with the Middle School and Upper School Computer Science Specialists to ensure effective integration of technology skills/concepts across the divisions. This individual purposefully promotes technology integration in accordance with the International Society for Technology in Education Standards. This includes keeping an eye toward best practices that promote:
Improving higher-order thinking skills, such as problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity
Preparing students to be innovators in a competitive global market
Designing student-centered, project-based, and online learning environments
In addition, from a division-wide standpoint, this individual should collaborate with teachers and other key leaders to:
Guide our school in creating digital places of learning and innovative thinking
Inspire digital-age professional models for working, collaborating, and decision making
Participate with the sponsorship of clubs/activities in the area of robotics or engineering
Develop/Lead Summer Camp initiatives
The Computer Science Specialist supports Maclay's Lower School division in these areas:
Assists teachers with the development of technology lessons
Provides support to teachers in using technology for classroom use
Proactively communicates with teachers to identify opportunities for technology integration
managing, maintaining, and promoting an Innovation/Maker-Space during Genius Hour for developing ideas and solving problems, and collaboratively coordinating grade-level or school-wide Design challenges/events
Additional duties as assigned
Applicants should have at least 3 years of teaching experience. A degree in Mathematics and/or Science and/or STEM related field, is preferred. Excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication skills are expected. Ability to be an innovative, collaborative, and positive member of the faculty is required.

Maclay School is a private, independent, non-sectarian college preparatory school located on 100 beautiful acres in northeast Leon County, Florida, about ten miles north of the state capitol building. It is dedicated to providing a liberal arts education, enabling each student to develop the inherent ability to the fullest extent with a balance of discipline and freedom. A group of parents founded the school in 1968 naming it in memory of Alfred B. Maclay, Jr., a World War II veteran whose mother was a major benefactor. The 2016-17 school year will be the 49th year for Maclay, now under the leadership of James Milford who is in his third year as Head of School.
