Glen Urquhart School, an independent K-8 day school forty minutes north of Boston, seeks a math teacher to staff its GAIN@GUS program. Since 2010, GAIN has provided access to academic and recreational summer enrichment at no cost to families for 30 underserved fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students in the cities of Beverly, Lynn, and surrounding North Shore communities. GAIN extends academic skills in math and language arts through classroom and outdoor experiences and off-campus trips. The position is 8:30 AM -12:30 PM from June 25 – July 27. Teachers report to the GAIN Site Director. Compensation is $25/hr.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Teaching within the setting of an individual classroom
Organizing the classroom environment and establishing routines that support children’s learning
Assess students’ mathematical abilities; provide academic exercises to broaden students’ skills; create and deliver engaging experiential problem sets to strengthen and extend students mathematical abilities

We seek a motivated and flexible teacher who understands how young people learn mathematics and who can work in a shared and cooperative environment. The position requires a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) and a minimum of two years of classroom experience or equivalent. Candidates should be familiar with the developmental needs of 10-13 year olds as well as the appropriate subject area content. Experience working with underserved populations is valued.
