Perkiomen School, an independent day and boarding for students in grades 6-12 and post graduate, seeks a Head of the Middle School for the 2018-2019 school year. The Head of the Middle School is the primary administrator for grades 6-8, a division of 60 students. The Head of the Middle School has overall responsibility for day to day operations in the Middle School, including curriculum, faculty support and supervision, and student and parent programs for the division. He or she is a member of the Administrative Team and works with the Head of the Upper School on academics, the Director of Athletics on after school programming, and the Assistant Headmaster for Student Life on matters of discipline and student life.
Responsibilities of the Position:
To maintain congruency between the school’s board-approved mission statement and all activities of that division.
To act as the educational leader of the school division, responsible for its day-to- day operation
To observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic programs.
To provide an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take place, a school climate which is supportive and which reflects high morale.
To make recommendations to the head of school regarding the hiring and retention, and the assignment of faculty;
To conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
To be a visible presence in all areas of the school and serve as a positive role model and demonstrate best practices in a diverse and inclusive school community
To develop and nurture a strong and positive sense of community among students, faculty, and parents in the Middle School
Inspire students, faculty and the broader community around a common vision for the Middle School
A passion for working with Middle School students, faculty and parents
Embrace an interdisciplinary/student-centered approach
Communicate clearly and transparently, both orally and in writing
Listen well and also serve as a decisive and inclusive leader
A dedicated learner with personal and professional integrity and the capacity to serve as a model of openness and acceptance
A sense of humor
Prior experience as a Middle School teacher, administrator or other relevant experience
A degree in educational leadership or other relevant degrees
