About Mayflower House
The Mayflower House dormitory is open for students in grades 9-12, and consists of up to 25 international and domestic students looking for a high school boarding experience right in the heart of Los Angeles. The Mayflower House is directly across the street from the Pilgrim School campus and has a full-time and part-time staff supporting the boarding students.
Mayflower House Dorm Parents serve an essential function in the overall welfare and community of the boarding program. We are seeking an energetic, caring, and thoughtful individual to join our Mayflower House team as a Dorm Parent. This position is a residential position, which will require the candidate to live full-time (in a private room) at the Mayflower House. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with students in a residential dorm experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
With the Mayflower House staff, oversee and maintain the smooth operation of the dorm and the safety and well being of all the boarding students.
Be an active presence in the Mayflower House, supporting the dorm students in all aspects of their experience at Pilgrim School.
Work with Mayflower staff and students to ensure a clean and healthy living environment.
Fulfill common parental duties, including ensuring students wake up in the morning, stay on schedule, providing directions, and shopping for groceries for the house.
Communicate with Mayflower Staff and Secondary School Faculty about student progress, and communicate with parents of boarding students to keep them informed of student progress.
Chaperone and provide transportation in the school vans for dorm students, including to and from the airport, medical offices, and shopping centers.
Cook meals for students on the weekends (weekday meals are currently catered by the school’s dining service).
Other duties as directed by the Director of the Mayflower House or Secondary School Administration.
Essential Qualities and Qualifications:
Strong leadership and communication abilities
Valid drivers license and comfort in driving students in school mini-vans
Interest and experience in working with adolescents
Experience in boarding school programs
Expertise in working with a diversity of cultures
About Pilgrim School
Pilgrim School, founded in 1958, is an independent, co-educational school for students in Preschool through Grade 12 that includes an international high school boarding program. The school is cradled in Wilshire Center, 10 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and attracts a student body as varied as the city's population. Pilgrim is the only accredited K-12 independent school within the urban core of Los Angeles.
